Objective
To introduce participants to the concepts required to operate safely and effectively in their work role and be aware of their obligations under the Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Act. Topics covered in the learning program include:

Overview of the Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Act and associated documents.
Responsibilities of management, workers, representatives, WHSOs and committees.
The risk management approach to OH&S management.
Conducting workplace inspections and being involved in incident investigations.
The operation of an OH&S Committee.

Delivery
Corporate groups only. Class room based delivery at our venue, or delivered specifically for clients at their venue and contextualised to the client’s specific systems.

Accreditation
Participants in this learning program will be issued with a Statement of Attendance.

NOTE: participants will not be elligible to issue PINS or orders to cease work unless they have completed the approved 5 day training program.

Background

NOST offers a variety of training programs suitable for H & S Representatives varying in duration from 4 hours up to 5 days (WHS Queensland approved course).

The new, harmonised WHS Act makes provision for H & S Representatives in the workplace. H & S Representatives are elected by their co-workers to represent them on WHS issues. H & S Reps:

can carry out inspections and review the circumstances of workplace incidents.
can participate in the workplace health and safety committee.
do not need any experience or special qualification but are entitled to paid training, if requested.

The Queensland WHS Act promotes consultation between H & S Representatives and management about the training that should be undertaken by the H & S Representatives. If no agreement can be reached, the H & S Reps are entitled to attend the approved 5 day H & S Representative training program.
