Mining Supervisors Competencies
These three units of competency have been specified by the Coal Mining Safety and Health Advisory Board for any person authorised to supervise workers on a coal mine in queensland.
The three units are:
- RIIRIS301A Apply Risk Management Processes (formerly QMS1),
- RIIOHS301A Conduct Safety and Health Investigations (formerly QMS2) and
- RIICOM301B Communicate Information (formerly QMS3)
Duration
3 days.
Objective
To ensure the learner has the skills and knowledge to meet the requirements of these units of competency including:
- Risk management focusing on
+ the appropriate identification of hazards and analysis of risk
+ selection and implementation of control measures - + use of risk management concepts to effectively supervise workers
- Incident investigation focusing on
+ evidence gathering
+ appropriate analysis of information to identify immediate causes (contributing factors) and underlying (real) causes - + making appropriate recommendations to reduce risk of a recurrence
- Communicate information focusing on
+ Appropriate communication skills to supervise a team, deliver a shift meeting or toolbox talk and negotiate

RIIRIS301A Apply Risk Management Processes (Formerly QMS1)

One Day
Objective
This learning program covers the skills and knowledge required to appropriately identify hazards, analyse and assess risks, recommend treatment, contribute to implementation of treatments and to monitor risks. It also covers participation in the preparation, testing and documentation of site work instructions/procedures or equivalent.
Delivery
Class room based delivery at our venue, or delivered specifically for clients at their venue and contextualised to the client’s specific systems.

This learning program meets the requirements of the nationally recognised unit of competency from:
- RII09 Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package.
RIIOHS301A Conduct Safety and Health Investigations (formerly QMS2)
Duration
One Day
Objective
This learning program covers the skills and knowledge required to conduct safety and health investigative processes at the operational level, including the identification and collection of evidence, the analysis of evidence to identify the reasons for and results of the occurrence or situations, and the identification and documentation of courses of action to resolve and/or prevent re occurrence of the issues or problems.

Class room based delivery at our venue, or delivered specifically for clients at their venue and contextualised to the client’s specific systems.

RIICOM301B Communicate Information (formerly QMS3)
Duration
One Day
Objective
This learning program covers the skills and knowledge required to function effectively to communicate information with other persons in the mining industry. This includes communicating verbally, communicating in written form, participating in meetings, making presentations, and participating in operational level negotiations.

Class room based delivery at our venue, or delivered specifically for clients at their venue and contextualised to the client’s specific systems.
